Toyota Mobility Foundation and Mobility Unlimited Hub Launch Film Showcasing Trexo Robotics’ Impact

TORONTO, CANADA

The Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), in collaboration with the Mobility Unlimited Hub (MUH) and MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, proudly announces the release of a compelling new film produced by BBC StoryWorks as part of its new series, Age of Automation. This film highlights the Joy of Movement through inspiring work of Trexo Robotics, a pioneering member of MUH’s inaugural cohort, and the transformative impact of their innovative exoskeleton technology.

The film centers on the Robert family from Milton, Ontario, and their son Mitchell, who was born with a rare genetic disorder that leaves him non-ambulatory. Thanks to the Trexo exoskeleton, Mitchell is now able to use his legs, a breakthrough that has significantly enhanced both his physical mobility and mental wellbeing—and that of his parents This personal story powerfully illustrates how cutting-edge mobility solutions can change lives and restore independence.

Beyond Mitchell’s story, the film also explores the critical role the MUH has played in advancing and scaling Trexo’s device. The Hub’s supportive ecosystem fosters innovation and accelerates the development of mobility technologies, enabling the other companies in the first cohort: Braze Mobility, Cheelcare, Deaf AI, Axtion Independence Mobility, creator of the RAYMEX® Lift, and AWL Electric to bring their products to market more quickly and effectively.

TMF’s experience with the Hub underscores the importance of collaborative ecosystems in driving faster growth for young companies. By combining technical expertise with financial backing and valuable networking opportunities, aided by Toyota’s know-how and practice of sharing its learnings, the Hub strengthens creative and operational pipelines and expedites the delivery of life-changing devices to those who need them most. There are now two cohorts of Hub startups working on their devices, for a total of 16 innovative groups currently active.

The Hub initiative reflects TMF’s ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible world through mobility innovation. The partnership with MUH and MaRS Discovery District exemplifies how strategic collaboration can accelerate progress and improve outcomes for people with disabilities worldwide.

The film is now available for viewing and offers an inspiring glimpse into the future of mobility — one where technology empowers individuals to overcome physical challenges and live fuller, more independent lives. You can check it out here
